The ‘Industry Plant’ and the G.O.A.T.: Kevin Hart and Katt Williams End Decades-Long Feud at Netflix Roast
LOS ANGELES — In a moment that stunned the comedy world and social media alike, Kevin Hart and Katt Williams have officially called a truce. The two heavyweights, who have traded public barbs for nearly two decades, buried the hatchet during a surprise appearance at the Netflix G.O.A.T. Roast of Kevin Hart on Sunday night (Netflix trailer below).
The reconciliation brings to an end one of stand-up’s most enduring and vitriolic rivalries, a feud that peaked as recently as 2024 during Williams’ explosive "scorched earth" interview on Club Shay Shay.
The ‘Enemies’ Invitation
The atmosphere at the Kia Forum shifted from mockery to disbelief when Williams was introduced as a surprise guest by host Regina Hall. Taking the lectern to a roar from the crowd, Williams immediately addressed the elephant in the room with his signature biting wit.
“I’m surprised they invited me,” Williams told the audience. “That’s how little star power you have, Kevin—they had to start inviting your enemies. I said, ‘I hate him.’ They said, ‘Come anyway.’”
Williams didn't hold back on the "industry plant" narrative he famously popularised, joking that he keeps trying to "bury" Hart, but the Jumanji star "keeps springing back the fk up, just like a plant." He also delivered a sharp jab at Hart’s alleged ties to the "junior varsity version of the Illuminati" before pivoting to a rare moment of professional respect.
The Olive Branch
The true "show-stopper," however, was not the roast itself but the aftermath. Following Williams’ set, Hart who has historically been reluctant to engage with Williams' critiques, addressed the fellow comedian directly in front of the live global audience.
“Me and this man have been at odds for years on years,” Hart said, standing up to meet Williams center-stage. “But Katt, I can sit, I can watch you, I can laugh because I’m a fking fan first. We have an opportunity in real time to put our beef behind us. I am offering you an olive branch of peace. I want to be a brother. I want to be a friend.”
The two comedians then shared a hug and a handshake, marking a definitive end to their public hostility.
A History of the Hart-Williams Rift
| Year | Event | Key Conflict |
| 2014-2017 | Social Media Jabs | Williams calls Hart a "puppet" and "puppet master's" toy. |
| 2018 | Tiffany Haddish Defense | Hart defends Haddish after Williams critiques her career. |
| 2024 | Club Shay Shay | Williams calls Hart an "industry plant" who steals roles. |
| 2025 | The Thaw | Hart hints at wanting to "unite comedy legends" in interviews. |
| May 2026 | The Roast | Truce officially established on live television. |
A New Era for Black Comedy?
The truce was later reinforced during Hart’s own closing set. While he couldn't resist firing back at the idea that he "stole" movie roles, joking that nobody wanted "a pimp in Jumanji", Hart underscored the cultural importance of their reconciliation.
“It’s not good for all these people to see us fighting. We’re too small to have the beef that we had,” Hart told the crowd. “The beef is over. I love the fact that that man showed up tonight.”
The Verdict
While comedy roasts are usually designed to tear stars down, the Netflix special may have achieved the opposite. By bridging the gap between the "underground truth-teller" and the "global brand-builder," Hart and Williams have sent a clear message to the industry: unity is more profitable than animosity.
Whether this leads to a creative collaboration remains to be seen, but for one night in Los Angeles, the two biggest names in comedy proved that no rift is too deep to be healed by a well-timed punchline.
