Carlos Alcaraz is officially ready to make his competitive comeback at the US Open, stepping back onto the court after a four-month absence caused by a right wrist injury. The injury forced the 23-year-old to miss his title defenses at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, as well as the recent hard-court tune-up events in North America.
In an unexpected crossover with football media, the comeback was announced in a joint post on Instagram alongside transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Alcaraz also posted on X using Romano's famous catchphrase, `"here we go!"`, and Romano's Instagram post officially confirmed the news:
"Here we go! Carlos Alcaraz will return to the tour at the US Open after spending four months sidelined with a right wrist injury. Ready to come back."
Alcaraz kicked off the year by winning the Australian Open in January, becoming the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam. However, his season hit a roadblock in April when he picked up the wrist problem at the Barcelona Open. Following a careful rehabilitation period that included high-intensity practice sessions with fellow player Holger Rune in Murcia, Alcaraz ultimately decided to skip Cincinnati to give his arm extra healing time.
As he returns to New York, the site of his breakthrough maiden Grand Slam win in 2022, Alcaraz sits at number two in the world rankings. He faces a competitive field led by rival Jannik Sinner, who enters the final major of the year with limited hard-court match play due to his own recent knee issues. Meanwhile, the tournament itself is offering a historic $108 million prize money pool.
