Trump Promises $5,000 ‘Trump Dividend’ to Voters if Republicans Win The Midterms

President Donald Trump has said that he will give a $5,000 payout to every adult citizen in the United States if the Republicans win the November midterm elections.

Speaking during a nearly two-hour keynote address at the Republican Party's first midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump introduced the proposal, which carries an estimated price tag exceeding $1 trillion.

Addressing the crowd, Trump linked the potential cash distribution directly to the outcome of the upcoming congressional elections:

"So if the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000."

"It will be called the Trump Dividend."

The president stated that the money would need to be spent domestically, framing the payments as a distribution stemming from tariff revenues and federal trade policies.

Vice President JD Vance defended the idea during a televised interview, describing the payments as a return on national trade policies:

"What the president is talking about is fundamentally a dividend for American workers."

"We're taking in an extraordinary amount of revenue because the president of the United States is actually standing up to both foreign companies but also foreign countries who've been taking advantage of America's workers."

"I don't think it's a controversial idea."

With approximately 270 million adult citizens in the nation, analysts estimate the proposal would cost the federal government roughly $1.3 trillion.

The announcement drew immediate reaction across the political spectrum. Critics labeled the pledge an attempt to influence voters ahead of November, while supporters argued that broad campaign promises regarding tax cuts or financial distributions are standard political practice.

Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin criticized the overall event and the administration's messaging, describing the gathering as a "bizarre dog-and-pony show" to placate the president's "fragile ego".

Martin added:

"Tonight only confirmed that the president is a lame duck failure who is dragging his party toward defeat".

Legal scholars noted that while federal law prohibits offering direct financial compensation in exchange for casting a specific vote, broad campaign pledges targeting all adult citizens, such as proposed tax cuts or national dividend programs, generally fall under protected political speech.

The convention in Texas represents the first time a major U.S. political party has staged a dedicated national convention during a midterm election cycle. Throughout his speech, Trump urged attendees and voters to treat the upcoming legislative races as a personal referendum:

 "If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000," Trump told the crowd, urging supporters to "pretend that I’m on the ballot".

The statement comes amid broader economic discussions involving inflation, international trade disputes, and ongoing tensions in the Middle East that have impacted global oil markets. 

During his remarks, Trump acknowledged current economic pressures while asserting that long-term policy goals remain the priority:

"There is a crazy little sick cloud over our country."

"We will defeat communism in America."

The president closed his presentation on the first night of the two-day gathering by reiterating his campaign call to action:

"I gave you a lot of material…please pretend that I’m running".
