‘You’re Next’: The Asylum Unveils Trailer for High-Octane Zombie Thriller Resident Dead
LOS ANGELES — B-movie powerhouse The Asylum has officially unveiled the first trailer for its upcoming zombie horror-thriller Resident Dead, promising a high-concept battle for survival amidst a flesh-eating apocalypse (trailer below).
Directed and written by genre veteran Ryan Ebert (Shark Frenzy, Summerween), the low-budget thriller leans into relentless action and ticking-clock suspense. The project arrives just ahead of its planned digital and streaming debut scheduled for 18th September.
The release of the trailer delivers a classic mix of visceral undead set-pieces, tense familial drama, and B-movie creature mechanics that have long made the independent studio a cult favourite among genre enthusiasts.
A Race Against the Clock for a Cure
The newly dropped footage introduces audiences to a desperate father (played by John Wells) who is keeping his recently infected daughter secure while attempting to navigate a world overrun by hordes of the undead.
In exchange for a promised vaccine that could save his daughter's life, the protagonist accepts a perilous delivery mission across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The catch: he must deliver an unknown package to a remote laboratory without opening the container or failing his timeline.
However, as the trailer reveals, reaching the final destination forces the father to confront an even more terrifying threat waiting inside the facility.
"If he reaches the lab with the vaccine in time, he believes his daughter will be safe," the official synopsis reads. "Unfortunately, the most horrific challenge awaits him at his final destination."
The Asylum Returns to Form
Known for producing fast-turnaround mockbusters and cult horror titles, The Asylum's latest outing features a solid ensemble cast of indie film veterans, including Isabel Ramirez, Thandiwe McMillan, Hamid-Reza Benjamin Thompson, Jarod Brock, Chase Nelson Breithoff, Sai Piña, and Rob Eubanks.
The trailer showcases a gritty, claustrophobic aesthetic, utilizing tactical firefights, close-quarters combat, and practical gore effects to amplify the horror atmosphere.
Moviegoers and online commentary have already noted the film's cheekily timed release, arriving in the same month as Sony Pictures' multi-million dollar theatrical reboot of Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise.
