‘A Gentle Giant’: Musician and AEW Wrestler Andy ‘The Butcher’ Williams Dies Aged 48

PITTSBURGH — The worlds of professional wrestling and heavy metal are in mourning following the sudden death of Andy Williams, the former Every Time I Die guitarist and All Elite Wrestling (AEW) star known to fans as "The Butcher". He was 48.

Williams passed away on Saturday evening after suffering a catastrophic medical emergency during an independent tag-team match at Mr. Smalls Theater in Millvale, Pennsylvania.

Teaming alongside his longtime tag partner Jesse Guilmette (The Blade) for Enjoy Wrestling's five-year anniversary event, Williams collapsed near the conclusion of their bout. On-site medical staff immediately rushed to the ring to perform CPR and administer a defibrillator before paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The remainder of the event was immediately cancelled.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Williams spent over two decades establishing himself as a formidable force in heavy music. As a founding member and rhythm guitarist for influential metalcore group Every Time I Die, Williams toured the globe extensively from 1998 until the band's dissolution in 2022.

Parallel to his music career, Williams pursued a lifelong passion for professional wrestling, making his in-ring debut in 2015. His imposing physique, vintage monocle-and-moustache aesthetic, and hard-hitting style quickly captured the attention of promoters worldwide.

In 2019, Williams achieved mainstream wrestling stardom after signing with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) alongside Guilmette and manager Allie (The Bunny). As "The Butcher and The Blade," the duo became a fixture of AEW’s tag-team division, engaging in memorable feuds against teams such as The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and The Lucha Bros.

Most recently, Williams had been balancing his independent wrestling appearances with his new musical project, Atomic Rule, having posted a video to social media just hours before his death expressing excitement over newly recorded studio demos.
