‘Chat, We May Be Having a Baby’: Rapper Blueface Rushes to Hospital Mid-Livestream as Girlfriend Nevaeh Akira Goes Into Labour
LOS ANGELES — Controversial American rapper Blueface was forced to abandon a live internet broadcast earlier this week after receiving a phone call that his girlfriend, Nevaeh Akira, had gone into active labour.
The 29-year-old artist, real name Johnathan Jamall Porter, was livestreaming to thousands of followers on the platform Kick on Monday when the dramatic personal moment unfolded.
In a bizarre convergence of his highly publicised romantic life, Blueface was allegedly in the middle of driving his ex-partner, reality star Chrisean Rock, to a Los Angeles airport when his mobile phone rang. On the other end of the line was an expectant Akira, who informed the rapper that she was by herself, three centimetres dilated, and experiencing contractions every two minutes.
A Chaotic Dash to the Maternity Ward
Realising the urgency of the situation, the rapper immediately pivoted his evening plans, updating his live audience in real-time.
"Chat, we may be having a baby," Blueface announced to his Kick viewers. "My baby mama in labour right now. I'm cancelling all of my plans for tonight. I was supposed to go with Dean and A.B., and I was supposed to go to the studio with The Game in Los Angeles... It looks like I will be spending my time in the hospital."
Following the phone call, Blueface hastily dropped Rock at the airport and rushed to the medical facility, with subsequent footage showing him arriving to a visibly relieved Akira.
On Wednesday, the couple celebrated the safe arrival of a baby boy named Solar Porter. The newborn marks Blueface’s fourth child; he also shares a son, Chrisean Jr., with Rock, alongside two children, a son and a daughter, with former long-term partner Jaidyn Alexis.
A Relationship Played Out Online
The dramatic hospital dash caps off a highly scrutinised few weeks for the couple, whose relationship has been heavily documented across streaming platforms.
Just days before the birth, the couple made headlines when police were called to their Los Angeles residence by concerned fans. Viewers had watched a poolside livestream wherein Blueface appeared to shove a heavily pregnant Akira and her young son into a swimming pool.
Although officers arrived at the property to conduct a welfare check and investigate potential assault, Akira assured authorities that she was unharmed, confirmed she had not been kicked in the stomach, and declined medical assistance.
The rapper’s followers were quick to react to the chaotic timing of Monday's events, taking to platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to highlight the messy irony of Akira going into labour while Blueface was chauffeuring his high-profile ex-girlfriend.
As of Wednesday afternoon, mother and baby are reported to be healthy and recovering.
