“No Trope Survives”: Wayans Brothers Reunite as ‘Scary Movie’ Reboot Trailer Officially Drops

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The "Core Four" are officially back, and no legacy sequel is safe. After 13 years of silence, Paramount Pictures has unmasked the first official trailer for the long-awaited reboot, simply titled Scary Movie (internally known as Scary Movie 6), confirming a franchise-wide reunion of the original creative team (trailer below).

The trailer, which made a surprise "bootleg" debut in front of Scream 7 screenings over the weekend, was officially released online Monday morning. It marks the first time Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have collaborated on the series since 2001, promising a return to the R-rated, "equal opportunity offender" humor that launched the $895 million (approx £710 million GBP) franchise.

The Return of Cindy and Brenda

The biggest headline for fans is the confirmed return of the series' legendary leading duo. Anna Faris and Regina Hall reprise their roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks, 26 years after they first survived a suspiciously familiar masked killer.

The trailer leans heavily into "legacy sequel" tropes, centering on Cindy and Brenda’s return to a familiar small town, only to find themselves hunted by a new generation of "elevated horror" villains.

“Twenty-six years later, and Ghostface is still the only man who calls me,” Brenda quips in a standout moment from the teaser.

A Blitz of Modern Parody

While the original films spoofed Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the 2026 reboot takes aim at the "prestige horror" boom of the last decade. The trailer features rapid-fire jabs at:

  • The Dancing Doll: A sequence featuring a "M3GAN" robot who reveals herself to be Ghostface.

  • The Smile Curse: A terrifyingly wide-grinning character who gets interrupted by a door-to-door salesman.

  • The "Elevated" Classics: Parodies of Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Nope, along with the indie sensation Terrifier.

  • The "Legacy" Snark: A meta-joke regarding Neve Campbell’s absence from previous Scream films, which appears to be the centerpiece of the film’s "cancel the Cancel Culture" marketing campaign.

The Wayans Family Affair

Director Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) helms the feature, but the fingerprints of the Wayans family are everywhere. Alongside Marlon and Shawn, the cast includes Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, and Gregg Wayans, creating a multi-generational comedy summit.

Returning favorites Lochlyn Munro, Dave Sheridan (Doofy), Jon Abrahams, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott are also confirmed to appear, ensuring the reboot feels like a true homecoming for the 2000s comedy era.

Controversy and "The Gloves Off"

True to form, the trailer hasn't arrived without friction. A joke regarding gender pronouns in the opening scene has already ignited social media debate, with some critics labeling it "dated" and others defending it as the franchise's trademark irreverence.

Marlon Wayans addressed the tone in a recent People interview, stating, “We got the gloves off. We’re going R. We’re going to have the same flavor we gave on the first one.

Scary Movie is slated for a prime summer release on 12th June 2026. With Scream 7 currently dominating the box office, the timing for a spoof of the "Ghostface" saga couldn't be more calculated.
