‘I See the Light’ Again: Disney Officially Casts Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in ‘Tangled’ Live-Action Remake
BURBANK, CA — After a "tangled" development journey that saw the project paused and revived, Disney has officially found its Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The studio announced yesterday that Teagan Croft (Titans) and Milo Manheim (Zombies) will lead the high-stakes live-action reimagining of the 2010 animated masterpiece, Tangled.
The news was followed by a viral "Mother Knows Best" moment on social media, as Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along) confirmed she has been cast as the manipulative villainess, Mother Gothel.
The New Faces of Corona
The casting of Croft and Manheim signals Disney’s desire to tap into a younger, social-media-savvy demographic.

Teagan Croft (Rapunzel): The 21-year-old Australian actress, best known for her brooding role as Raven in the DC series Titans, beat out high-profile names like Freya Skye and Sarah Catherine Hook. Insiders say her screen test in London last December displayed a "perfect blend of innocence and curiosity."
-
Milo Manheim (Flynn Rider): Manheim, a veteran of the Disney Zombies franchise, steps into the boots of the roguish thief originally voiced by Zachary Levi. While some fans noted that Manheim appears younger than the animated version of Flynn, director Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) reportedly wanted a lead with "exceptional musical theater experience."
“I’ve been practicing the ‘Smolder’ for years,” Manheim joked in an Instagram post shortly after the announcement. “Ready to get tangled up with this incredible team.”
The "Perfect" Mother Gothel
The most celebrated casting of the week remains Kathryn Hahn. On Tuesday, March 10, Hahn posted an "Outfit of the Day" video on Instagram wearing a custom-made Mother Gothel T-shirt, officially confirming the months of fan-casting rumors.
Hahn replaces Scarlett Johansson, who was reportedly in talks for the role in late 2025 before stepping away due to scheduling conflicts with The Batman: Part II. Hahn’s ability to balance comedic timing with theatrical villainy—honed recently in Marvel’s Agatha All Along—makes her the "absolute ideal" to perform the show-stopping number "Mother Knows Best."

A Comeback for Disney Remakes?
The Tangled remake arrives at a pivotal moment for Disney’s live-action strategy. The project was placed on "indefinite hold" in early 2025 following the disappointing box office performance of Snow White. However, the unexpected $1.04 billion success of the Lilo & Stitch remake later that year reportedly convinced Disney executives that "modern era" hits (those released post-2000) are more resilient at the box office than "legacy" fairy tales.
With Gracey at the helm, the film is expected to leans heavily into its musical roots. Production is rumored to begin in Spain and the UK this June, with the studio eyeing a holiday 2027 release window.
Original Voice Cast Cameos?
While the new leads are locked in, fans are already petitioning for cameos from original voice actors Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi. Levi recently suggested in an interview that he and Moore would be "perfectly happy" to appear as Rapunzel’s parents, the King and Queen of Corona, a nod that would surely delight the original film's massive cult following.
