North West Drops Debut EP

‘Elementary School Evolution’: North West Drops Debut EP N0rth4evr to Global Buzz

LOS ANGELES — The era of the "Miss Westie" cameo is over. North West, the 12-year-old eldest daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, has officially entered the music industry as a solo force with the release of her debut EP, N0rth4evr.

Dropped at midnight on Friday 1st May, via YZY SND, the six-track project marks a departure from the "chipmunk soul" and playful verses seen in her father's recent works. Instead, the EP serves as a gritty introduction to North’s own artistic identity, a "chaotic, cinematic" blend of rage-rap, goth-rock, and hyper-pop that has immediately set social media alight.

The ‘Goth-Rock’ Pivot

The EP arrives as a precursor to her long-promised full-length studio debut, The Elementary School Dropout. While fans expected a continuation of the lighthearted energy found in her 2024 breakout single "Talking," N0rth4evr is a decidedly moodier affair.

The opening track, "H0w Sh0uld ! f33l," samples Meg & Dia’s "Monster" and sets a defiant tone. North addresses the weight of her family’s legacy head-on, rapping over a heavy, distorted beat about the pressures of being "the most famous kid in the world."

“How am I younger than you? / I’m who you look up to!” she chants on the standout track "D!e," a fusion of hypertrap and teenage angst that showcases a flow heavily influenced by the likes of Playboi Carti and Molly Santana.

A Multilingual Finale

One of the project's most talked-about moments is the closer, "Aishite (愛して)," a hypertrap ode to Kikuo’s Vocaloid classic "Aishite Aishite Aishite." Featuring North performing in Japanese, a skill she first teased on her father's Vultures project, the track cements her fascination with "Harajuku street style" and global subcultures.

1 "H0w Sh0uld ! f33l" Rage-rap / "Monster" Sample

YZY SND: The New Distribution Deal

The release also signals a new era for YZY SND, which reportedly secured a massive distribution deal earlier this week to facilitate North's solo rollout. While her father, Kanye West, is credited with co-production on several tracks, the creative direction is being billed as entirely North's.

Industry critics are already weighing in on the "prodigy's" first formal outing. While some have noted the "blatant" influence of the underground rage scene, many have praised the 12-year-old’s "impeccable ear for production" and her ability to articulate the alienation of Gen Alpha.

The Verdict

With N0rth4evr, North West has effectively bridged the gap between her elementary school years and her burgeoning status as a fashion-forward, genre-bending artist. The "Next One" of the West dynasty has arrived, and it seems she’s more interested in mosh pits than playground songs.

The EP is available now on all streaming platforms.
