‘The Battle of Britain’ Beckons: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Targets November UK Return

LONDON — The long-elusive "Battle of Britain" has moved a significant step closer to reality. In a breakthrough update on Friday, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that negotiations for a blockbuster heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have reached their final stages, with a tentative date set for November 2026 on UK soil.

The news comes just two weeks after Fury’s successful return to the ring at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov. Following that victory, the "Gypsy King" and Joshua engaged in a heated verbal exchange ringside, reigniting a rivalry that has frustrated boxing fans for over a decade.

The Two-Fight Roadmap

According to Hearn, the proposed deal, orchestrated in conjunction with Saudi Arabia’s boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh, lays out a clear 2026 roadmap for both fighters.

  1. The Warm-up (July 2026): Joshua is expected to make his competitive return in July. This will be his first outing since his December 2025 victory over Jake Paul and a subsequent recovery period following a tragic car accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends.

  2. The Mega-Fight (November 2026): Providing Joshua emerges victorious in July, he will move directly into the showdown with Fury.

“We have received the contracts and we’ve been going back and forward,” Hearn told iFL TV. “My instructions from AJ are to make the fight. If he gets through July, you’ve got not just the fight of the century, but the fight of all time.”

UK Venue Tug-of-War

While previous heavyweight spectacles have been whisked away to Riyadh, there is a mounting push to keep this domestic grudge match in the United Kingdom.

While Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium remain the frontrunners, a surprise contender has emerged in Croke Park, Dublin. Stadium officials have confirmed they are in talks to host the event, potentially featuring Irish icon Katie Taylor in what could be the final fight of her legendary career.

‘Now or Never’

For Tyson Fury, who recently signed a three-fight deal for 2026, the sentiment is clear: the time for waiting is over. Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, Fury urged Joshua to skip any "unnecessary" warm-up bouts to ensure the November date remains secure.

“This fight was supposed to happen so many times over the last 10 years,” Fury said. “In heavyweight boxing, anything can go wrong. If you get knocked upside down in July, it’s finished. I want it as the fight next.”

The Netflix Factor

In a significant shift for the sport’s broadcasting landscape, reports suggest that Netflix is the primary contender to stream the bout globally. Following their successful broadcast of Fury’s comeback earlier this month, the streaming giant is reportedly ready to fund the record-breaking purses required to get both men in the ring.

With no world titles currently on the line following their respective losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, the fight is being billed as a pure legacy play, a final settling of scores to decide the greatest British heavyweight of the era.
