‘One Quarter-Mile at a Time’: Vin Diesel Unveils Landmark Fast & Furious TV Expansion for Peacock
NEW YORK — The "Fast Family" is officially moving from the multiplex to the small screen. In a high-octane announcement at the NBCUniversal upfront presentation on Monday, Vin Diesel confirmed that the multi-billion-pound Fast & Furious franchise is in active development for a major live-action television expansion on the Peacock streaming service.
Taking the stage at Radio City Music Hall, the 58-year-old actor, who has steered the franchise as Dominic Toretto since 2001, revealed a bold vision for the property’s future. Diesel claimed that four separate live-action series are currently being explored, aimed at expanding the backstories of "legacy characters" that fans have championed for over two decades.
The ‘Langley’ Influence
Diesel, who will serve as executive producer alongside long-time franchise architect Neal Moritz, admitted he was previously hesitant to bring the brand to television. However, he credited the "expanded oversight" of NBCUniversal Studio Group Chairwoman Donna Langley as the catalyst for the move.
“For the last decade, we have realised that the fans have wanted more,” Diesel told the audience. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters and their stories. The desire has been there, but I had to wait until the timing was right. It became right when Donna Langley started to oversee it all, because I knew the integrity of these characters would be protected.”
A Transitional Gear-Shift
The announcement arrives at a pivotal moment for the saga. While Fast X (2023) began the "beginning of the end," the road to the final theatrical chapter, titled Fast Forever, has been long. With that film now officially slated for a March 2028 release, the Peacock series are being viewed as essential bridges to keep the engine running during the cinematic hiatus.
The pilot for the primary series is being penned by Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman, the veteran duo behind the gritty NBC drama Shades of Blue.

Cannes and the 25th Anniversary
The timing of the TV reveal coincides with the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebrations. Later this week, Diesel will travel to the Cannes Film Festival for a special midnight screening of the original 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious, which is being honoured as a modern action classic.
Joining him on the Croisette will be original cast members Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster, marking a rare moment of reflection for a series that has grossed over $7 billion worldwide.
The Verdict
While NBCUniversal later clarified that only one series is in "active development" (contrasting Diesel’s claim of four), the shift to streaming represents the most significant change in the franchise's history. By moving into the "prestige TV" space, Universal is betting that audiences are as interested in the internal mechanics of the Toretto family as they are in cars jumping between skyscrapers.
Whether these shows focus on the early days of the Toretto garage or the international espionage of the later films remains a closely guarded secret. But for a franchise built on the mantra of "family," the house is about to get a lot bigger.
