Vernon Kay Completes Ultramarathon, Raises £4.1 Million for Children in Need

In a remarkable feat of endurance, BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay has successfully completed a challenging ultramarathon, raising an impressive £4.1 million for the charity Children in Need. The DJ took on the four-day journey, covering a staggering distance of 116 miles from Leicester to his hometown of Bolton.

Speaking to Radio 2 breakfast host Zoe Ball upon reaching the finish line at Bolton Wanderers' football stadium, a visibly exhausted Kay shared his sentiments, describing the ultramarathon as "one of the most painful and joyous experiences I've ever had." In a light-hearted moment, he quipped, "Is there anyone here who can replace a knee?"

Throughout the marathon, Kay kept Radio 2 listeners updated on his progress, sharing the highs and lows of his journey. Along the way, he made stops at local landmarks in Bolton, including his old school, St Joseph's, providing a nostalgic boost to his morale.

Reflecting on the support he received, Kay expressed gratitude, saying, "We've met some brilliant people who've donated all they can. It was just one foot in front of the other, and we've had a great team pushing me along and motivating me."

The funds raised by Kay will contribute to Children in Need's mission of improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. The charity's annual televised appeal, airing on BBC One at 19:00 GMT, will feature actor Lenny Rush as its first-ever child presenter, alongside other celebrities, including Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, Jason Manford, Chris Ramsey, and Alex Scott.

Despite facing physical and mental exhaustion, Vernon Kay's triumphant completion of the ultramarathon stands as a testament to his dedication and the generosity of those who supported his fundraising efforts. As the nation eagerly awaits the Children in Need broadcast, Kay's achievement serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of collective goodwill and determination.
