Taylor Swift Announces New Album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’
Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, after a whirlwind of fan speculation. The news dropped at 12:12 a.m. ET on her website alongside a teaser clip from boyfriend Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast, where she pulled out a mint green briefcase and said, “This is my brand new album.” While fans can already pre-order physical copies, the official release date is still to be confirmed.
Hints of the announcement began a day earlier when her team posted 12 cryptic photos captioned, “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’” The album will be her first since The Tortured Poets Department in 2024, and her first major release since she wrapped her record-shattering Eras Tour in December. The tour became the highest-grossing in history, pulling in more than $2.2 billion worldwide.
It’s also the first new project Swift has released since reclaiming ownership of her first six albums, plus her concert films, videos, and unreleased tracks. In May, she confirmed she had bought back the rights “outright with no strings attached, no partnership, full autonomy,” ending a years-long battle sparked by the 2019 sale of her masters.
