Royal Mint Drops New Game of Thrones 50p Coins for 15th Anniversary

Royal Mint Drops New Game of Thrones 50p Coins for 15th Anniversary

It has officially been 15 years since Game of Thrones first burst onto TV screens in 2011, pulling millions of viewers into the brutal, legendary fantasy world of Westeros. To celebrate a decade and a half of political backstabbing, dragons, and winter battles, the UK's Royal Mint has launched a special collectible coin collection.

The new set is aptly named A Celebration of Fire and Ice, and has been created in partnership with Warner Bros Discovery Global Consumer Products.

Dragons and White Walkers in Your Pocket

The limited-edition release is built directly around the opposing elements that define the story. The collection offers two distinct 50p designs:

  • The Fire Coin: Features a dragon breathing a blast of deep crimson fire, honoring House Targaryen.
  • The Ice Coin: Features the Night King, complete with his icy, piercing blue eyes, representing the threats beyond the Wall and House Stark.

Rebecca Morgan, director of collector services at The Royal Mint, highlighted how the fantasy saga continues to hold its grip on popular culture:

“Game of Thrones captured the imagination of millions around the world, and 15 years on, that passion is still as fierce as dragon fire. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering the Seven Kingdoms for the first time, these coins are a stunning tribute to one of the greatest stories ever told.”

How Much Will a Trip to Westeros Cost You?

The collection went on sale at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, July 15th, on The Royal Mint’s official website, with deliveries expected to ship in autumn 2026.

Because of the massive global fanbase, virtual queues are expected. If you are hoping to secure yours, the Mint advises staying on the landing page and avoiding refreshing.

Depending on how much gold you have in your personal vault, there are several tiers of the coin available to buy:

Coin Price
Game of Thrones (Fire) 50p Brilliant Uncirculated Coin £15
Game of Thrones (Ice) 50p Brilliant Uncirculated Coin £15

A Busy Time for Thrones Fans

It has been a highly active, and potentially expensive, season for the franchise's most dedicated collectors. The coin launch follows hot on the heels of a luxury illustrated edition of George R.R. Martin's first book in the series, produced by The Folio Society for a hefty £1,500 ($2,200).

Meanwhile, fans waiting for the series' next print installment, The Winds of Winter, received another setback when publisher Bantam Books squashed rumors of a 2026 release. Though author George R.R. Martin maintains he will finish the story himself and has ruled out letting another writer take over if he passes away, the wait continues.

Fortunately, the on-screen universe is still very active. Fans can currently get their fix of Westeros through spinoffs like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, alongside rumors of a potential sequel series following Arya Stark.
