The Ultimate "Green Light": Hulu Lands 50 Cent’s Definitive Docuseries After Bidding War

LOS ANGELES — Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has officially turned a viral "April Fool’s" stunt into a high-stakes streaming reality. Following a frenzied bidding war that reportedly involved Netflix, Apple, and Starz, Hulu has emerged as the winner for the rapper’s definitive three-part documentary series.

The deal, confirmed by Deadline and Variety on Tuesday 7th April comes just one week after Jackson teased a massive $75 million (approx £57 million GBP) partnership on social media, a figure that, while still unverified by the studio, appears to have set the floor for one of the most lucrative documentary sales in years.

The Pivot from Producer to Protagonist

While Jackson has dominated the documentary space recently as an executive producer—most notably with Netflix’s 2025 ratings juggernaut Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the new Hulu project marks his first major move in front of the lens.

Directed by Mandon Lovett (Rap Caviar Presents), the as-yet-untitled series will trace Jackson’s meteoric rise from the drug trade in Queens to the heights of music, television, and billion-day business deals.

“50 Cent’s journey is the stuff of legend,” said Craig Erwich, Head of Originals at Hulu. “This documentary series will give viewers an unfiltered look at his rise from the streets of Queens to the heights of global fame. It’s a story of relentless reinvention.”

A Tale of Two Documentaries

Industry analysts are noting the strategic timing of the Hulu deal. By producing a "downfall" narrative for his rival Sean "Diddy" Combs on Netflix while simultaneously launching a "triumph" narrative for himself on Hulu, Jackson is effectively controlling the two most dominant hip-hop stories of 2026.

The series is a collaboration between Jackson’s own G-Unit Film & Television and The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), the powerhouse behind Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath.

Patrick Altema is set to serve as showrunner, overseeing the use of never-before-seen archival footage from the early G-Unit days and new interviews with hip-hop icons including Eminem and Dr. Dre.

The "Street Fighter" Era

The Hulu announcement arrives amidst a massive professional peak for the rapper. Beyond his television empire, Jackson is currently wrapping production on the blockbuster Street Fighter live-action film (set for 16th October 2026), where he stars alongside Jason Momoa.

“Hulu wins in a bidding war... biggest doc deal in years,” Jackson wrote in a 1st April post that many originally dismissed as a prank. Now that the dust has settled, it appears the "Green Light Gang" has successfully executed its biggest industry heist to date.

Hulu has not yet announced a firm release date, but sources close to production suggest the series could hit the platform in late 2027 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of his legendary business deals.
