Glastonbury Festival Kicks Off As The Warm Weather Continues
The Glastonbury Festival has kicked off today at Worthy Farm in southwest England. The gates opened at 8:00 AM BST, with Emily Eavis leading a countdown as a brass band played the Rocky theme tune.
Fans are in for a sunny week, with temperatures hitting 27C on the first day, though scattered showers might appear over the weekend. The festival, known for its quick ticket sellouts and diverse lineup, will feature performances from artists across genres, including Afrobeats star Burna Boy and K-pop group Seventeen.
Carmel and Phil Cole from South East London, queuing since 2:00 AM, expressed their excitement, having returned after four years. First-timer Meghan Wood from London was eager to see Coldplay, while seasoned attendee Gabija Lauce from Lithuania looked forward to navigating the festival with her previous experience.
The main music stages will start on Friday, with highlights including Dua Lipa’s debut on the Pyramid Stage and Coldplay’s return after a seven-year hiatus. Shania Twain is set to play the coveted legends slot on Sunday.
Aside from music, attendees can enjoy a variety of activities such as speeches, film screenings, circus performances, and comedy sets. The festival also plans a drone show on Wednesday night to celebrate its opening. Live coverage is available on BBC TV and iPlayer.
