Sony Raises PlayStation 5 Prices in the US

Sony Raises PlayStation 5 Prices in the US

Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 consoles in the US will see a $50 price increase starting from this Thursday, August 21st. The PS5 Digital Edition will now cost $499.99, the standard disc version $549.99, and the high-end PS5 Pro $749.99. Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s VP of Global Marketing, said, “Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.” Accessories such as controllers will not see any changes.

The move comes as companies worldwide struggle with tariffs and rising costs. The US currently imposes a 15% tariff on imports from Japan, Sony’s home country, and even higher rates on goods from China. While Sony hasn’t directly blamed tariffs, many global brands including Adidas and Nike have already raised US prices in response. Microsoft also recently increased the cost of its Xbox consoles, while Nintendo bumped up the price of the original Switch. Sony has previously raised PlayStation 5 prices in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand earlier this year.
