FBI Searches Homes of Two Americans Linked to Russian Media

The FBI recently searched the homes of two American men. And that is for Scott Ritter and Dimitri Simes. Both men have connections to Russian state media which is the government controlled media in Russia.

Who are they?

Scott Ritter used to be a weapons inspector for the United Nations. His job was to make sure that countries followed weapons related regulations. Dimitri Simes is an adviser who previously worked with Donald Trump on his 2016 presidential campaign.

Why did the FBI search their homes?

The FBI is investigating whether these men broke the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). This law requires Americans to alert the government if they are doing political work for another country. The searches are part of a larger investigation into whether Russia is attempting to influence US elections.

What Did Ritter and Simes Say?

Both men confirmed that the FBI searched their homes. Scott Ritter believes the search was because of his criticism of US policies especially regarding Ukraine. Dimitri Simes who hosts a show on Russian TV said he feels the search was meant to scare him and make his life in the US difficult.

What Happens Next?

As of now neither of them has been charged with any sort of crime. The FBI is still investigating and more steps may be taken in the future.
