Man guilty over role in shooting of girl, 9

A man was found guilty of his involvement in a gangland shooting that left a nine-year-old girl with a bullet lodged in her brain. Javon Riley, 33, was found guilty of causing serious bodily harm with intent to the woman who was struck in the head by the first of six bullets fired from a passing motorbike at the Evin Restaurant in Hackney last May. Riley was also found guilty of trying to murder three men, Mustafa Kiziltan, 35, Kenan Aydogdu, 45, and Nasser Ali, 44, who were seated outside the restaurant that night. No one has been identified with the gunman and the pistol used in the east London shooting.

The girl was an innocent victim of a bitter tit-for-tat feud between rival Turkish gangs, according to the Old Bailey.

The future we had hoped for our daughter was torn away in a single moment,
the girl's mother said. She was once an active, adventurous child - all of life, energy, and life celebrated movement, movement, happiness. Now, she can only watch from the sidelines, she says, while living with a titanium plate in her skull and a bullet still in her brain.

The shooting took place around 21:20 BST on May 29th last year, when the girl was eating ice cream with her family. According to the court, the three critically wounded men were thought to be members of the Hackney Turks organised crime group, which had a rivalry with the Tottenham Turks, with whom Riley had links. Riley, a north London Tottenham Hotspur player, was a key player before, during, and after the shooting. According to the court, he did a reconnaissance, going through the scene several times to ensure the intended or targets were present before the shooting and he assisted the gunman in escaping capture in a car that was later discovered to be burned out. Later discovered the motorcycle used in the shooting - a Ducati Monster with a white body, red chassis, and red wheels, was also found.

We are shattered, physically, mentally, and financially,
the girl's mother said.
Each day brings new challenges, from her slow growth on one hand to the emotional and mental scars that cannot be seen.
Now is the world we once knew was safe for our children.
For information that leads to the identification, arrest, and trial of the man who fired the bullet,
the Met Police has paid a £15,000 reward.

Riley confessed to being involved in heroin trafficking and robberies, but said he was aware of a conspiracy plot to capture drugs and cash from outside the restaurant. Riley refused to tell the court the identity of the man who hired him or even to give any details about the gun other than saying he was mixed race.Javon Riley's behavior traumatically changed the course of a teenage girl's life,

Det Insp Ben Dalloway, who supervised the probe, said.
While this verdict is a slither of justice, the person responsible for pulling the trigger remains on our streets. Riley is set to be convicted on September 12th.
