One Facebook page posted an image claiming “Episode of Stranger Things will release on January 7”, alongside talk of a “massive theory” that the finale wasn’t actually the end. Thousands of people shared and commented, with reactions ranging from excitement to outright disbelief. Jokes also piled in. One commenter quipped: “Vecna’s wife wakes up and finds him in the shower and realises it was all a dream”.
The theory gained even more traction on TikTok, helped along by AI-generated videos and speculation about hidden messages, including supposed Morse code. Even popular brands joined the fun, with the Slim Jim account chiming in: “I STILL BELIEVE.”
Is There Evidence That Another Episode Is Coming?
Despite the hype, there’s no evidence a secret episode exists. Netflix has made no announcement suggesting more Stranger Things episodes are coming. In fact, the show’s official Instagram and TikTok bios were quietly updated to read: “ALL EPISODES OF STRANGER THINGS ARE NOW PLAYING.”
The Duffer Brothers have also been clear that the ending was meant to be just that — a goodbye to childhood and a step into adulthood for the characters.
So What’s Next For Stranger Things?
What is coming soon is a behind-the-scenes documentary. Netflix has confirmed One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 will be released on 12th January, offering fans a look at how the final season was made.
The speed at which the episode nine rumour spread highlights how quickly misinformation can travel, especially when a show has such a passionate fanbase.
