An Agent of Chaos: Warner Bros Unveils Whimsical New Trailer for ‘The Cat in the Hat’ Starring Bill Hader

LONDON — Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Dr. Seuss Enterprises have unleashed a vibrant new trailer for The Cat in the Hat, offering audiences their most comprehensive look yet at Bill Hader’s irreverent, chaotic take on the legendary children's book character (trailer below).

The feature film, slated to arrive exclusively in cinemas on Friday 6th November 2026, represents a historical milestone: it is the first-ever fully computer-animated (CG) theatrical film dedicated to the anthropomorphic feline since Dr. Seuss published the foundational storybook in 1957.

The fast-paced, colourful new footage confirms that the project is completely abandoning the live-action aesthetic of Mike Myers' infamous 2003 iteration, pivoting instead toward a deeply surrealist, high-energy animated universe crafted by DNEG Animation (The Garfield Movie, Nimona).

A Secret Agent for the Imagination

While the original 1957 book restricted the Cat’s mischief to a single, rainy house while a mother was away, the screenplay for the 2026 adaptation massively expands the Seussian lore.

According to the official studio logline re-affirmed alongside Tuesday's trailer drop, Hader’s Cat is actually an elite, albeit highly unpredictable, operative working on behalf of the I.I.I.I. (The Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC).

The narrative tracks the Cat as he takes on his most psychologically demanding assignment to date: a mission to rescue and cheer up Gabby (Xochitl Gomez) and Sebastian (Tiago Martinez), a pair of cynical siblings struggling to adapt after being uprooted to a dull, unfamiliar new town.

However, the trailer reveals that the Cat’s signature brand of unhinged, magical mayhem quickly escalates out of control. With a reputation for taking his imaginative games a step too far, the Cat must successfully navigate a journey through the "Land of Memories" to complete his mission. Failure means facing the ultimate professional consequence: losing his magical, reality-bending striped hat forever.

An Elite Comic Ensemble

The newly released footage heavily showcases Hader’s specific vocal performance. The Emmy-winning Barry and Saturday Night Live alumnus infuses the character with a fast-talking, theatrical eccentricity that perfectly balances warmth with a distinct edge of frantic mania.

Hader also serves as an executive producer on the project alongside Susan Brandt and Steve Zissis.

The supporting voice cast features an exceptional cross-section of modern television comedy royalty. Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson lends her voice to a character named Sherri, while Wicked star Bowen Yang and Paula Pell (Girls5eva) occupy key comedic roles. Crucially for British audiences, the trailer gives significant prominence to BAFTA-winner Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows), who portrays the household's highly stressed, rule-abiding pet Fish.

The Extended Voice Cast of ‘The Cat in the Hat’

Character / Identity Entity Attached Voice Performer Primary Industry Pedigree Structural Narrative Role
The Cat in the Hat Bill Hader Barry / Inside Out An unstable, magic-wielding agent of the I.I.I.I.
The Fish Matt Berry What We Do in the Shadows The frantic, voice-of-reason household pet
Gabby Xochitl Gomez Doctor Strange in the Multiverse The cynical older sibling dealing with a new town
Sherri Quinta Brunson Abbott Elementary A key, newly created Seussian supporting entity
Mr. Hoogeboom Giancarlo Esposito Breaking Bad / The Boys Antagonistic, structural authority figure
The Mother America Ferrera Barbie / Ugly Betty The busy parent whose absence sparks the chaos

The Architecture of a New Seuss Universe

The project is being structurally steered by the directing duo of Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3) and Erica Rivinoja (Trolls, The Addams Family 2), working from a screenplay they co-wrote. The film is produced by Daniela Mazzucato and Jared Stern (DC League of Super-Pets).

Significantly, The Cat in the Hat functions as the critical launchpad for a massive, multi-film corporate pipeline established between Warner Bros. and Dr. Seuss Enterprises. The studios are utilizing this November release to build out an interconnected cinematic universe, with animated feature adaptations of Thing One and Thing Two and a refreshed take on Oh, the Places You'll Go! already locked into active development.

The Verdict

Warner Bros. appears to have cracked the notoriously difficult code of adapting Dr. Seuss for the silver screen. By leaning heavily into the elastic, limitless boundaries of modern CG animation rather than fighting the limitations of live-action prosthetics, the film captures the true visual spirit of the original illustrations. Bill Hader’s natural gift for vocal characterization makes him the perfect heir to this classic agent of chaos, and the addition of Matt Berry’s booming, exasperated tones guarantees plenty of laughs for parents.

Families can prepare to welcome the chaos when the film lands in UK and international cinemas on Wednesday 4th November 2026, before expanding to North America on 6th November.
