‘Too Boring’: Meryl Streep Rules Out Writing a Memoir During Star-Studded Reunion

NEW YORK — Meryl Streep has officially dashed the hopes of bibliophiles and film historians alike, confirming that she has no intention of ever penning an autobiography. The three-time Academy Award winner addressed the topic during a rare joint appearance with her The Devil Wears Prada co-stars, jokingly describing her own life story as "too boring" for the page.

The 76-year-old icon made the comments on Monday 20th April, while promoting the highly anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy.

‘Nope, Nope’

When host Andy Cohen asked if the "Navy" of Streep fans would ever be treated to a definitive account of her five-decade career, the response was immediate and resolute.

“Nope, nope,” Streep insisted, before the presenter could even finish the query. When Cohen noted the speed of her refusal, the Sophie’s Choice star laughed, adding: “Too boring. Seriously. What am I going to say? ‘Then I went to Yale’? No one wants to read that.”

The sentiment was playfully echoed by Stanley Tucci, a veteran of the memoir genre with three cookbooks and the bestselling Taste to his name. Streep gestured toward him as a counter-example, to which Tucci quipped: “Yeah, trust me, she’s right.”

The Streisand Standard

While Streep has no desire to write, she admitted she is still a consumer of the medium—provided she doesn't have to actually read it. Cohen questioned if she had tackled Barbra Streisand’s 970-page 2023 autobiography, My Name Is Barbra.

“What am I, nuts? I listened to it, which was the only way,” Streep smiled, praising the "fantastic" nature of the audio version while maintaining that such an undertaking was not for her.

A Return to the Stage?

The interview wasn't entirely focused on what Streep won't do. The actress teased a potential return to her theatrical roots, revealing she has been in discussions with her Only Murders in the Building co-star, Martin Short, about a Broadway collaboration.

“I would love to do that. I was talking with Marty Short, and we were thinking that would be fun to do,” Streep teased. The pair, whose off-screen chemistry has been a frequent subject of tabloid fascination in 2026, previously delighted audiences with their romantic arc in the fourth season of the Hulu/Disney+ hit.

The Legend of Longevity

Streep’s refusal to write a memoir aligns with her long-standing philosophy of "blank page" acting. In a recent Vogue profile, she explained that she prefers to disappear into characters rather than cement her own narrative.

As she prepares for the global release of The Devil Wears Prada 2 on 2nd May, Streep remains a cultural force whose relevance only deepens. Whether she is reprising the icy Miranda Priestly or contemplating a Broadway bow, it seems the "Greatest Living Actress" prefers to let her work do the talking—leaving the memoirs to everyone else.
