Manchester synagogue attack victims named

Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, were among the men injured in a man attack on a synagogue in Manchester. According to investigators, one of the men was wounded by police gunshots as they opened fire on the attacker. On Thursday morning, three others are still in hospital with serious injuries after Jihad Al-Shamie rammed a car into people before stabbing others. The attack, which police have traced to a terrorist attack, occurred on Yom Kippur, the Jewish religious calendar's busiest day.

Abdul Rahimi, Adrian Daulby's neighbor for more than 20 years, said he was like an angel.He was a really good neighbor, really helpful guy, and was always helpful,he told the BBC.So much

loved Daulby by Rahimi's own children, who would exchange gifts with him during several religious holidays, including Christmas and Eid. All his neighbors were shocked, he said, and that his death was

very sad news for us. According to the home secretary, the attacker, who was shot dead at the scene, was a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent who had not previously known how to tackle terrorism police. Our hearts are shattered right now, UK Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis told the BBC, our hearts are broken.What transpired yesterday was an awful blow to us,he said on Radio 4's Today show,something we were actually afraid of happening because of the build-up to this event. The attack was not limited toa very bad time

for Jews in Britain, but also for the majority of our society,

he said.

Our job is to make sure our Jewish people and our civilians can go about their lives with safety and protection,

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood told the BBC.

I do not want Jewish people in our country to feel like they must live a smaller Jewish life,

she said,

they cannot go about their work, pray, and go to their religious institutions in freedom. According to BBC Breakfast, Al-Shamie was not aware of counter-terrorism police, and that it was

too late

to ask if there was a terrorist cell behind the attack, if it was behind it. The police probe was

continuing at speed,

and synagogues throughout the United Kingdom had an increased police presence.

The government does have funding for defense,Mahmood said, adding:I think we'll have to consider what more we can do to combat rising antisemitism. According to Greater Manchester Police, one of the victims was struck by police gunfire. One of those wounded was shot with a non-life threatening gunshot wound, and another was injured. According to the service, it was assisting the families of the two men killed.

I have the deepest sympathy for Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz's families during this difficult time,
