Trump Confirms TikTok Deal with Oracle and US Investors

Trump Confirms TikTok Deal with Oracle and US Investors

President Donald Trump says a deal to keep TikTok running in the US has been reached. Under the agreement, TikTok’s US operations will be handed over to a new American-led joint venture. Oracle will play a central role, taking over the app’s powerful algorithm and retraining it with US user data, effectively cutting ties between ByteDance and the US content feed. Oracle will also manage the app’s user data on US-based servers, expanding an existing relationship meant to address national security concerns.

The deal follows a 2024 law that required ByteDance to divest from TikTok or face a nationwide ban. Trump, who originally pushed for the ban, changed course after rejoining the app during his campaign and building a massive following. He has since delayed the enforcement of the law multiple times and is expected to sign an executive order this week to extend the deadline again by another 120 days, allowing final paperwork to go through.

ByteDance will hold under 20% of the new US entity, which will be controlled by a board of mostly American investors. Big names like Oracle, Silver Lake, Fox Corp, and Michael Dell are among the expected stakeholders.

China hasn’t officially confirmed its approval, though Trump said he received a green light from President Xi Jinping in a recent call. ByteDance has remained quiet, but thanked both leaders “for their efforts to preserve TikTok in the United States.” The deal still needs a few regulatory steps, but the White House says it’s “100% confident” it will go through.
