Homer’s Back: 'The Simpsons Movie' Sequel Set for 2027
The Simpsons are heading back to the big screen — 20 years after their first movie. Disney and 20th Century Studios have confirmed a sequel to The Simpsons Movie, scheduled for release on July 23, 2027. While plot details are still under wraps, the announcement poster says it all: a pink donut and the tagline, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
The original 2007 film was a massive success, raking in $536 million worldwide. It followed Homer accidentally contaminating Springfield’s water supply and the town being sealed inside a giant glass dome. Since then, fans have long speculated about a sequel, and the confirmation has sparked plenty of online excitement.
Now renewed through season 40, The Simpsons has remained a pop culture staple since its 1989 debut. Showrunner Matt Selman credits streaming for keeping the show fresh, saying, “Now instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever.”
