Man Accused of Train Stabbings Charged with Multiple New Offenses, Including Two Additional Attempted Murders
The man accused of carrying out a brutal stabbing attack on a train traveling from Doncaster to London King's Cross earlier this month now faces even more charges, bringing his total number of offenses to 18.
Anthony Williams, a 32-year-old with no fixed address, has already been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder in relation to the mass stabbing on the evening of November 1st. On Wednesday, British Transport Police (BTP) added seven more charges following further investigations into other incidents that occurred in the days leading up to the attack.
The stabbing attack on November 1st left 11 people injured, including one member of staff who was in critical condition for several days before being discharged from the hospital. Samir Zitouni, an LNER staff member, was hailed as a hero for using a frying pan to fend off the attacker and help prevent further casualties.
The new charges stem from a series of violent events on October 31st in Peterborough, Stevenage, and aboard a train between Hitchin and Biggleswade. Williams is now accused of:
- Attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man in Peterborough,
- Attempted grievous bodily harm of a 28-year-old man in Peterborough,
- Affray and possessing a bladed article during an incident at a barbershop in Peterborough,
- Theft after he allegedly stole knives from an Asda supermarket in Stevenage,
- Common assault of a 31-year-old man aboard a train between Hitchin and Biggleswade.
BTP Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Cundy described the new charges as “significant,” adding that the police investigation into the train attack had expanded to include these additional offenses. “Our investigation into the awful incident at Huntingdon has also focused on other offences previously reported to police or identified by our investigation,” Cundy said. “We have worked closely with our colleagues in Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police alongside the Crown Prosecution Service to bring these charges.”
Williams will appear in court later today at Peterborough Magistrates' Court to face the additional charges.
