IPL Final 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders Clinch Third Title with Dominant Win Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Kolkata Knight Riders Win Third IPL Title After a Decade
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title and their first in ten years with a resounding eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2024 IPL final. This win adds to their previous successes in 2012 and 2014.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Crumble to Lowest IPL Final Score
Sunrisers Hyderabad, known for their powerful batting displays this season, were bowled out for a mere 113 runs in 18.3 overs—the lowest total in any IPL final. SRH, who had recorded some of the highest scores in IPL history earlier in the season, struggled from the start. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc set the tone by dismissing Abhishek Sharma with a stunning delivery on the fifth ball of the match.
KKR Bowlers Dominate
The KKR bowlers delivered a stellar performance. Andre Russell led the attack with figures of 3-19, while Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora claimed two wickets each. The spinners, including Sunil Narine, who bowled economically for 1-16, kept the pressure on SRH throughout their innings.
Venkatesh Iyer's Explosive Knock Seals Victory
In response, KKR chased down the target with ease, reaching 114-2 in just 10.3 overs. Venkatesh Iyer played a blistering knock of 56 not out off 26 balls, including four consecutive boundaries off both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan. Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributed 39 runs off 32 balls, and together with Iyer, they added 91 runs for the second wicket, ensuring a swift victory for KKR.
