LOS ANGELES — De’Mario Thornton, best known as Raz-B of the chart-topping American R&B group B2K, and his wife Mona Li Thornton are mourning the sudden and unexpected death of their three-month-old infant son, Astro Monte Thornton.
A representative for the couple confirmed the tragic news in a statement issued on Thursday, September 10th, requesting privacy on behalf of the family as they navigate the loss.
The exact cause of death for the infant, who passed away earlier this week, has not been publicly disclosed.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Astro Monte Thornton, beloved son of Mona and De'Mario 'Raz B' Thornton of the R&B supergroup B2K," the family’s spokesperson, David Robinson, said in an official statement. "The family asks for privacy as they navigate this difficult time. They truly appreciate your love and support."
A Celebration of Fatherhood
The heartbreaking news comes just months after the 41-year-old vocalist celebrated the arrival of baby Astro in May. At the time, Thornton shared his joy with fans directly from the hospital, posting a photoshoot with his wife and family.
"I always wanted to take a real family picture with my own family... and finally, God made a way," Thornton wrote on social media ahead of the birth. "Right now we're at the hospital getting ready to welcome our newest addition, Astro... another baby boy to the Thornton family."
In June, Thornton posted footage from the hospital birth alongside a Father's Day homage, reflecting on his role as a husband and parent.
Astro was the couple's second child together, joining their older son, Versai Carter Thornton, born in late 2024.
