‘From Godolkin to Xavier’s’: Gen V Star Asa Germann Cast as Angel in Marvel’s Upcoming X-Men Reboot
LOS ANGELES — Marvel Studios’ live-action X-Men reboot has secured another founding member. Rumour has it, Asa Germann, best known for his breakout role as Sam Riordan in Prime Video’s superhero satire Gen V, has officially joined the cast as high-flying mutant Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel.
According to trade reports confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Germann initially auditioned for the role of Scott Summers (Cyclops). While that role ultimately went to Heartstopper actor Kit Connor, Marvel Studios executives, led by producer Kevin Feige were reportedly so impressed by Germann’s screen tests that they offered him the role of Angel instead.
Germann’s casting marks the third original member of the comic book line-up to be cast in director Jake Schreier’s ensemble, following Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Connor as Cyclops.
A Youthful Mutant Line-Up Takes Shape
Germann, 28, joins a noticeably young ensemble cast assembled to lead Marvel’s upcoming "Mutant Saga".
The line-up unveiled across recent months features Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, alongside a roster of rising stars including Maya Boyd as Storm, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Oscar-nominee Adam Driver as the main antagonist, Mister Sinister.
"Having almost 90 years of comic book history, there are so many stories yet to tell," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige noted at Disney's D23 convention. "We announced a very young, new cast for X-Men... there have been 10 great X-Men movies, but there can be 100 more."
Germann is no stranger to superhero properties. In Amazon’s Gen V—the spin-off series of The Boys, he portrayed Sam, a troubled young hero with super-strength and invulnerability. He also recently appeared on the big screen in Scream 7.
The Third Live-Action Angel
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963’s The X-Men #1, Warren Worthington III is the heir to a vast corporate fortune who possesses large, feathered white wings enabling him to fly. In the comics, the character later undergoes a dark transformation into the metallic-winged villain Archangel at the hands of Apocalypse.
Germann becomes the third actor to portray the character in a live-action feature film. Ben Foster previously played Warren in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, while Ben Hardy played the character in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

The Mutant Saga Begins
Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*) from a script penned by Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear), the film is slated to serve as the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new mutant-focused era.
With principal photography expected to commence in early 2027, Germann’s casting signals that Marvel Studios is moving swiftly to complete its core X-Men roster ahead of production.
