Incident at Oceana Water Park: Fire Erupts in Liseberg Amusement Park
In a dramatic incident on Monday, a fire erupted at the Oceana water park in the bustling Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden. The fire originated at an outdoor water ride, later spreading to the entire building and sending thick black smoke billowing over the city, according to a statement from Liseberg.
Although no guests were present at the time, one man, identified as a worker on the Liseberg project, was reported missing. 12 individuals were also reported to have sustained minor injuries from the fire.
Efforts to quell the blaze were underway throughout the evening, with fire-fighting vehicles surrounding the area as live video footage captured the water slides being engulfed by flames. A nearby hotel and office premises were also evacuated for safety reasons.
As the rescue services continued their firefighting endeavours, police and fire officials remained uncertain about the cause of the fire. Authorities urged residents in the vicinity to stay indoors and keep windows closed to protect against fumes.
Oceana, the new addition to Liseberg's attractions with a construction cost of 1.2 billion kronor ($10.6 million), was slated to open later this year.
