“I See the Truth”: Gritty New ‘Supergirl’ Trailer Debuts During Super Bowl LX

LOS ANGELES — The "S" on the chest has a new, sharper edge. DC Studios took over Super Bowl Sunday yesterday, debuting an action-packed, emotionally charged new trailer for Supergirl (formerly titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow). The footage offers a haunting first look at Milly Alcock as a Kara Zor-El who is worlds away from the bright-eyed hero of Metropolis (trailer below).

The trailer, which hit social media immediately after its Super Bowl broadcast, confirms the film’s high-stakes theatrical release date of 26th June 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), the project is being billed as a "cosmic western" that trades superhero tropes for a brutal story of survival and vengeance.

Survival on a Floating Grave

The teaser opens with a visually stunning, intimate look at the final days of Krypton. Unlike her cousin Kal-El, who was sent away as an infant, Alcock’s Kara is shown as a survivor who witnessed the slow, agonizing death of her people on a drifting fragment of the planet.

This trauma serves as the trailer's philosophical backbone, punctuated by a voiceover from Kara that highlights the rift between her and Superman:

“He sees the good in everyone,” Kara says over shots of intergalactic bar fights and wreckage. “And I see the truth.”

Baby Krypto and the Quest for Vengeance

In a moment that quickly went viral, the trailer introduces Krypto the Superdog. Rather than a polished hero, Krypto is presented as a "grubby, forsaken stray" that a young Kara finds among the ruins of Argo City. The bond between the two survivors is positioned as the emotional heart of the film.

The central plot kicks into gear when Kara is recruited by a young alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll (played by 3 Body Problem's Eve Ridley), to hunt down Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts), the ruthless mercenary who murdered Ruthye’s father.

Lobo Makes His Move

The trailer’s final seconds provided the biggest "mic drop" of the night: the first official look at Jason Momoa as the cigar-chomping, intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo.

Momoa’s appearance—complete with the character's signature bike and attitude confirms the actor’s transition from Aquaman to the "Main Man" of James Gunn’s new DC Universe. While his exact role in Kara's quest remains mysterious, the footage teases a volatile, action-heavy climax between the two powerhouses.

A "Gods and Monsters" Anchor

As the second feature film in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters," Supergirl leans heavily into the source material of the acclaimed Tom King comic miniseries. With a score by Tom "Junkie XL" Holkenborg (replacing Ramin Djawadi), the film’s soundscape is as rugged and desolate as the alien worlds showcased in the trailer.

Supporting cast members David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham also make brief appearances as Kara’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, during the Krypton flashbacks.

As the trailer concludes with a shot of Kara taking flight against a backdrop of ancient, cosmic ruins, one thing is clear: the "Woman of Tomorrow" isn't here to save the world, she's here to settle the score.
