Race Against the Clock: Full Trailer for Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson Actioner ‘Runner’ Unveils High-Octane Buddy Chemistry

BRISBANE — Angel Studios has officially unleashed the high-velocity full trailer for Runner, confirming a definitive cinematic partnership between Reacher powerhouse Alan Ritchson and Hollywood veteran Owen Wilson (trailer below).

Scheduled to hit UK and international cinemas on 11th September 2026, the action-thriller marks a distinct creative pivot for the production. While the project’s initial teaser trailer leaned heavily into bleak, bone-shattering combat, this newly released final showcase throws a healthy dose of sharp buddy-comedy humor into the mix, framing a highly chaotic on-screen dynamic between its two contrasting leads.

Set entirely against the sun-bleached backdrop of Australia, the film transforms the streets of Brisbane and the Gold Coast into a hyper-kinetic playground where a seemingly straightforward medical courier assignment quickly devolves into an all-out war zone.

Three Hours to Save a Life

The structural blueprint of Runner trades on pure, high-concept adrenaline. Ritchson stars as Hank Malone, a decorated former soldier turned high-end underground courier who suddenly finds himself thrust into the absolute fight of his life.

The narrative catalyst ignites when Malone is handed a critical medical transport cooler by Ben Bishop (played with signature dry, comedic energy by Owen Wilson). Inside the container is a donor liver destined for a critically ill seven-year-old girl. Malone is given a strict, razor-thin three-hour window to successfully transport the organ from Brisbane down to the Gold Coast hospital.

However, the high-stakes mercy mission hits a catastrophic roadblock when a ruthless international crime cartel discovers the cargo. Realising the liver could easily fetch upwards of $1 million (£780,000) on the black market, the syndicate deploys its full street muscle to ambush Malone, turning a routine regional drive into a relentless, explosive gauntlet where every single second counts.

An Elite Action Pedigree

To ensure the film’s physical stunts carry genuine, visceral weight, the directorial reins have been handed to seasoned action filmmaker Scott Waugh. Celebrated for helming high-octane projects like Act of Valor, Need for Speed, and The Expendables 4, Waugh has reportedly utilized minimal digital green-screen intervention, opting instead for practical, high-speed car chases and authentic hand-to-hand combat choreography.

The screenplay is written by the rising writing duo of Miles Hubley and Tommy White, with Ritchson himself pulling double duty as a primary producer alongside veteran Hollywood fixer Todd Garner (Mortal Kombat).

Supporting the core duo is an impressive, highly international ensemble cast, including Rodrigo Santoro (300) as the film's menacing cartel antagonist, alongside Leila George, Sullivan Stapleton, and Kate Box.

A Blockbuster Autumn for Ritchson

The upcoming September theatrical launch anchors what is shaping up to be an absolutely monumental autumn for Ritchson. The 41-year-old actor’s star power has reached an all-time high following the massive streaming success of Reacher, which recently locked down consecutive broadcasting windows for its fourth season and a highly publicised standalone spinoff.

By pairing Ritchson’s overwhelming physical presence with Wilson’s legendary, laid-back comedic timing, Runner is positioning itself as the premier theatrical crowd-pleaser of the late summer window. With the distribution machinery fully primed and the final trailer generating major viral traction across film communities, audiences have roughly two months left to brace their pulses before the ultimate race against time officially gets underway.
