Four Injured After Stabbing and Vehicle Attack At Manchester Synagogue

A major incident has unfolded outside a synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester, on Yom Kippur, after a man reportedly drove a car at members of the public and stabbed several people. The suspect was shot by police at the scene and is believed to be alive, but his condition has not been confirmed. A major incident was officially declared by authorities just minutes after the attack.
Greater Manchester Police were called at 9:31am to the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue following reports of a vehicle attack and a stabbing. Armed officers arrived quickly and fired shots at 9:38am, hitting a man believed to be the attacker. Paramedics were on scene minutes later at 9:41am. The suspect did not enter the building.
Four people were injured, with wounds from both the car and being stabbed. One of the victims is believed to be a synagogue security guard. The North West Ambulance Service confirmed it had dispatched emergency resources and is working alongside police and other agencies. “Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible,” it said.
Mayor Andy Burnham described the event as a "serious incident" but noted that "the immediate danger appears to be over."
Police have cordoned off the area around Middleton Road, and the public is being urged to stay away while investigations continue. A major incident was officially declared by authorities just minutes after the attack. Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, typically sees large gatherings at synagogues. The suspect’s motive has not yet been confirmed.
