End of UK summer arrives with torrential rain
It looks like summer is officially over for UK citizens as the weeks of sunshine have been replaced with torrential rain.
The rain comes as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Lee, which came from the coast of Africa, hit the UK. The heavy rain resulted in a yellow warning last night for areas of Wales, northwest, west and south England, and west Scotland. According to the Met Office, the severe weather is likely to continue as the week goes on and will potentially get worse over the weekend as the weather starts to become influenced by Hurricane Nigel, which is currently north of Bermuda..
Many Britons have reported extreme flooding, with roads and some train lines being rendered unusable as a result. The Met Office have stated that if a road is flooded to turn around instead of attempting to drive through it because as little as 30cm of flowing water can cause a car to float. They have recommended that people keep up to date with the weather in their area over the coming days as it is likely that weather warnings will change quickly until the remnants of the hurricanes have passed.
Last night saw over 500 properties in Wales without power as a result of the weather, with 23 weather alerts in Wales alone. The weather also caused disruption for those travelling by train, with cancelled trains across multiple networks and major disruption between Kings Cross and Stevenage.
