Cher Files for Conservatorship Over Son Amid Mental Health and Substance Abuse Concerns

Renowned singer and actress Cher has filed for a conservatorship over her 47-year-old son, Elijah Blue Allman, citing severe mental health and substance abuse issues. Cher contends that a conservatorship is urgently needed to protect his assets from potential misuse.

According to court documents, Elijah, who is set to receive assets from a trust established by his late father, musician Gregg Allman, will be at risk if the funds are not managed appropriately. Cher, who has asserted herself as the best candidate for conservator, highlights her ongoing efforts to secure treatment for Elijah.

The court has scheduled a hearing for January 5, 2024 to discuss a temporary order, with a further hearing March 6, 2024, to determine the conservatorship's viability and potential permanence.

This legal move comes after earlier accusations against Cher, involving an alleged attempt to forcibly remove ("kidnap") Elijah from a New York City hotel room for intervention purposes in 2022. Cher has denied the accusation.

Cher's actions have sparked public conversation surrounding conservatorships, which are notably exemplified by Britney Spears' conservatorship which was terminated in 2021.

Elijah Blue Allman's situation adds another layer to the ongoing discourse about the complexities and challenges of managing the affairs of individuals facing mental health and substance abuse issues under conservatorships.
