‘Don’t Watch the Mouth, Watch the Hands’: Beyond the Spider-Verse Electrifies CinemaCon With Final Chapter Footage

LAS VEGAS — The multiverse is officially reaching its breaking point. Sony Pictures closed out its high-octane CinemaCon 2026 presentation on Monday evening by unveiling the first footage from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the long-awaited conclusion to the Oscar-winning Miles Morales trilogy.

Writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller took the stage alongside directors Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson to introduce what they termed the “most emotional” and "ambitious" chapter yet. In a significant production update, Sony confirmed that the film will hit cinemas on 18th June 2027, following extensive work to ensure the trilogy's finale meets its own sky-high visual standards.

Escape from Earth-42

The exclusive footage picked up exactly where Across the Spider-Verse left audiences hanging. The clip begins in the dark, industrial landscape of Earth-42, where our Miles (Shameik Moore) remains bound to a punching bag, staring down the intimidating duo of his Uncle Aaron and his own doppelgänger, the Prowler Miles (Jharrel Jerome).

The scene is reportedly thick with tension as our Miles attempts to appeal to his uncle’s humanity, pleading for help to save his father, Jefferson Davis, back on Earth-1610. When the Earth-42 versions remain unmoved, Miles delivers a callback to his original training with Peter B. Parker: “Don’t watch the mouth, watch the hands.”

In a surge of bio-electric "venom power," Miles shatters his restraints, leading to a dizzying escape sequence that transitions through multiple animation styles in seconds—a hallmark of the series that drew a massive roar from the Las Vegas crowd.

A Race Against the Canon

While the opening focuses on Miles’ escape, a following "sizzle reel" teased the broader scope of the war. Key highlights included:

  • Gwen’s Resistance: Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) leading her new "Spider-Band", including Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), across a vibrant interdimensional bridge.

  • The Spot’s Evolution: A chilling look at The Spot (Jason Schwartzman), now a terrifying void of pure energy, declaring: “I just wanted to be taken seriously,” before beginning to “drain the life” out of a collapsing universe.

  • The Spider Society: Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) standing amidst a sea of opening portals, appearing more desperate and unhinged than ever as he attempts to prevent a "Multiversal Collapse".

The ‘Ultimate’ Visual Experience

Producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord confirmed that Beyond the Spider-Verse is being crafted in the 1.43:1 ultra-tall aspect ratio, specifically for IMAX 70mm and high-end premium formats. This technological leap aims to immerse audiences even further into the "dizzying, neon-soaked dystopias" Miles must navigate to get home.

“This isn’t just a sequel; it’s a reckoning,” Lord told the audience. “Miles was never supposed to be Spider-Man, and the multiverse is starting to notice. This is about a kid fighting for his right to exist.”

A Summer of Spidey

The Spider-Verse reveal followed a massive presentation for the live-action MCU entry Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, which is set to arrive this summer on 31st July 2026. Sony CEO Tom Rothman emphasized that the studio is committed to making 2026 and 2027 "the years of the Spider," balancing the gritty, grounded emotion of the MCU with the boundary-pushing artistry of the animated trilogy.

As the presentation ended, a final still was shown: Miles Morales standing face-to-face with his father, Jefferson Davis, in a moment of quiet emotional gravity. For Miles, the final chapter isn't just about saving the world—it’s about saving the family he broke the multiverse to protect.
