‘Kinda Weird I Have to Say This’: Percy Jackson Star Walker Scobell to Miss School Prom Following Fan ‘Death Threats’
LOS ANGELES — Walker Scobell, the 17-year-old star of Disney+’s hit series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, has announced he will be skipping his high school prom after obsessive fans allegedly targeted his prospective dates with death threats.
In a candid and frustrated statement shared to his Instagram Story on Sunday, 12th April, the young actor pleaded with his followers to cease the harassment of teenage girls in his local community.
‘It’s Not Fair to Them’
Scobell, who rose to global fame as the titular son of Poseidon, revealed that the decision to miss the milestone event was made out of concern for the safety of his peers. The actor noted that "every teenage girl" remotely associated with him, often simply due to living in the same area, had become a target for online vitriol.
“Just to let everyone know, I will not be attending prom,” Scobell wrote. “Please stop sending death threats to EVERY teenage girl who could remotely be associated with me based on their proximity to where I live. It’s not fair to them or to their families.”
He added: “Maybe also just stop sending death threats in general. That’s just not cool. Kinda weird I have to say this.”
The Rise of ‘Parasocial Toxicity’
Industry analysts and child safety advocates have pointed to the incident as a disturbing example of "parasocial toxicity"—a phenomenon where fans develop one-sided, obsessive relationships with celebrities.
Reports suggest that some fans had even threatened to "turn up" at the school dance with weapons, drawing comparisons to previous high-profile stalking incidents involving young creators.
Young Casts and the Cost of Fandom
| Actor | Project | Recent Fan Incident |
| Walker Scobell | Percy Jackson | Cancelled prom attendance due to threats. |
| Aryan Simhadri | Percy Jackson | Reported being harassed by "40 drunk girls" in public. |
| Leah Sava Jeffries | Percy Jackson | Subject of racial abuse and "shipping" harassment. |
| Millie Bobby Brown | Stranger Things | Deleted social media due to sexualisation and stalking. |
A Pattern of Harassment
This is not the first time the Percy Jackson cast has faced the darker side of fame. Scobell’s co-star, Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), recently detailed a "disturbing" encounter where a group of fans became physically inappropriate with him in public.
Similarly, Leah Sava Jeffries (Annabeth Chase) has faced persistent "shipping" harassment, with fans demanding she and Scobell date in real life, a narrative that Scobell’s team believes fueled the current threats against his real-world schoolmates.
The ‘Titan’s Curse’ Looming
The controversy comes at a peak for the franchise. Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians (based on The Sea of Monsters) premiered to record numbers in December 2025, and production for Season 3, The Titan’s Curse, is expected to begin later this year for a late 2026 release.
Despite his onscreen heroics, Scobell’s Instagram post serves as a sobering reminder that for child stars, the real-world monsters are often much harder to defeat.
“He’s a 17-year-old boy trying to have a normal high school experience,” noted pop-culture critic Aramide Tinubu. “The fact that he has to negotiate his safety just to go to a dance is a damning indictment of modern fan culture.”
