University of Suffolk Announces Esports Degree Launching in 2025

The University of Suffolk is pioneering the way forward in the East of England with its launch of a groundbreaking Esports undergraduate course set to begin in 2025. The development of the degree is a significant step into the rapidly evolving industry of professional gaming. Esports, short for electronic sports, has witnessed a surge in global popularity, and has gained support from major brands like Red Bull, Heineken, and Microsoft.

 

Cirriculum

The curriculum of the program is set to cover various essential aspects of the esports domain, including game design, event management, live streaming, marketing, and competitive gameplay analysis. To ensure students are equipped with the latest industry knowledge and skills, the university is collaborating closely with industry experts in the development process. 

 

Stuart Harmer, Dean of the School of Technology, Business, and Arts at the University of Suffolk, expressed excitement about this initiative, saying, “We are thrilled to announce our plans to create one of the first esports undergraduate courses in the East of England. It recognises the tremendous growth and potential of the esports industry. We have witnessed a significant growth in students studying esports at colleges and schools in the region and by providing this course we’re offering these students a much-needed pathway that allows them an important progression into Higher Education in this industry."

 

University invests in state-of-the-art Esports Lab

The university is also making substantial investments in a state-of-the-art Esports Lab, which will feature industry standard gaming machines capable of hosting tournaments and events. This lab will serve as a practical learning environment where students can gain hands-on experience through internships, partnerships, and live esports events hosted on campus.
