South Korea Leads Global Talks on Military AI Use
On the 9th of September South Korea organized an important summit to discuss how artificial intelligence should be used in military operations. This meeting was held in Seoul and included over 1,000 participants from more than 90 countries. It had powerful nations such as the United States and China.
What Is the Summit About?
The main goal of this summit is to develop rules for the safe and responsible application of AI in military settings. AI has the potential to significantly improve military capabilities. However it also carries risks if used wrongfully. For an example there are concerns about AI systems making critical decisions. Such as selecting targets in combat without human supervision.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun raised these concerns. He mentioned that while AI can make the military stronger and more efficient it can also lead to dangerous situations if not handled correctly.
