Double the Deadites: ‘Evil Dead Wrath’ Begins Filming as Franchise Sets 2026-2027 Bloodbath

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — The Necronomicon is staying open for business. In a move that signals unprecedented confidence in the long-running horror franchise, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures have officially confirmed that production is now underway on the seventh Evil Dead film, titled Evil Dead Wrath.

The news comes as a shock to the industry, not because a new film is happening, but because of the aggressive timeline. The franchise is currently filming its seventh installment while the sixth—Evil Dead Burn—is still four months away from its theatrical debut.

The "Wrath" Begins

Directed by Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County), who was reportedly hand-picked by series creator Sam Raimi, Evil Dead Wrath began principal photography in Auckland, New Zealand, over the weekend.

While the studio released a retro-inspired teaser featuring the classic jagged font and the familiar, unsettling drone of the franchise's score, plot details are being guarded more fiercely than the Book of the Dead itself. However, the cast list suggests a fresh ensemble of victims and survivors, including:

  • Charlotte Hope (The Nun)

  • Zach Gilford (Midnight Mass)

  • Jessica McNamee (Mortal Kombat)

  • Josh Helman (Mad Max: Fury Road)

A Two-Year Terror Plan

This "nesting doll" production strategy confirms Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell’s previously stated goal of releasing a new Evil Dead experience every two to three years.

  1. The Sixth Film: Evil Dead Burn, directed by Sébastien Vaniček (Infested), is locked for a 24th July 2026, release.

  2. The Seventh Film: Evil Dead Wrath, with production now active, is widely speculated for a Halloween 2027 release window.

“We’re well beyond the cabin now,” Bruce Campbell teased in a recent interview with Screen Rant. “We’re beyond Ash. It’s about the lore, the book, and finding new filmmakers who can make a movie that actually hurts to watch. That’s the mandate.”

The "Burn" Before the "Wrath"

As fans look toward Wrath, the immediate focus remains on this summer’s Evil Dead Burn. Vaniček has promised a "nasty, cathartic" experience that incorporates a "French twist" on the established Deadite rules. Starring Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), the film reportedly wrapped production late last year and is currently in the final stages of post-production.

Is Ash Returning?

Despite the focus on new standalone stories, rumors of Ash Williams returning to the live-action fold refuse to die. While Campbell officially "retired" the character from live-action in 2018, his name appears as an Executive Producer on both upcoming films.

Industry whispers suggest that Wrath may feature the "connective tissue" Campbell has hinted at, potentially linking the various standalone stories (including 2013's Evil Dead and 2023's Evil Dead Rise) into a unified, apocalyptic timeline.

For now, horror fans can celebrate a rare feat: a 45-year-old franchise that is moving faster—and more violently—than ever before.
