The Hedge Knight Returns: HBO Confirms 2027 Premiere for ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Season 2

NEW YORK — Fans of Westeros won't have to wait long to reunite with Dunk and Egg. Following the massive success of the series' debut last month, HBO has officially confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 2 will premiere in 2027.

The announcement, delivered by HBO CEO Casey Bloys during a press presentation, solidifies the network's "year-to-year" strategy for the Game of Thrones universe. With House of the Dragon Season 3 slated for this summer, HBO is moving toward a schedule that ensures a trip to Westeros every calendar year through at least 2028.

Adapting ‘The Sworn Sword’

Showrunner Ira Parker confirmed that the second season will adapt George R.R. Martin’s second novella, The Sworn Sword. Set roughly a year and a half after the events of the first season, the story follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, as they enter the service of an elderly knight in the Reach during a devastating drought.

The Sworn Sword is my favorite novella in many ways,” Parker told The A.V. Club earlier this week. “We’re getting into characters like the Red Widow (Rohanne Webber), Ser Bennis, and Ser Eustace. We are already cutting scenes together now, and it feels incredible to see it slowly come together.”

Production Underway in Belfast

In a show of confidence, HBO renewed the series for its second installment back in November 2025—two months before Season 1 even premiered. This early greenlight allowed production to begin in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on 9th December 2025.

Recent reports suggest that HBO is filming Seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back to minimize the gap between releases and to accommodate the rapid growth of young star Dexter Sol Ansell (Egg). George R.R. Martin himself recently visited the set, sharing on his blog that he was “heartened” by the intimacy of the production, which continues the first season’s shorter, 30-to-35-minute episode format.

New Faces in the Reach

While the full cast list remains under wraps, several key roles for The Sworn Sword have reportedly been filled:

  • Lady Rohanne Webber: Sources indicate that Lucy Boynton (Bohemian Rhapsody) has been cast as the formidable "Red Widow."

  • Supporting Cast: New additions are expected to include the rival knights and lords of the Checkered Water, expanding the series' scope while maintaining its "underdog" charm.

The Road to the Season 1 Finale

The news comes at a fever pitch for fans, as Season 1 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to conclude this Sunday 22nd February. The finale, titled “The Morrow,” will wrap up the brutal Trial by Seven at Ashford Meadow.

For those worried about running out of material, Martin recently revealed that he has handed Parker outlines for up to 12 unpublished Dunk and Egg stories, ensuring that the adventures of the Seven Kingdoms' most unlikely duo could continue well into the next decade.
