Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series are buzzing with excitement, and a healthy dose of skepticism, after reports surfaced that Sony has begun a targeted marketing campaign for Grand Theft Auto 6. According to various online reports, Sony is sending emails and console notifications to PlayStation 4 owners who have wishlisted the upcoming sequel or are considered "top Grand Theft Auto 5 players," encouraging them to make the jump to next-gen hardware.
The message reportedly being shared with users is direct:
"Grand Theft Auto 6 is on your wishlist. Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, 2026."
While these emails aren't a formal announcement from Rockstar Games, they provide the strongest evidence yet that the game is on track for its November 19th launch. The timing aligns with recent comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who told Bloomberg that the company plans to "ramp up marketing" for the title this summer.
The campaign has also seemingly confirmed the game's age rating. Marketing materials from Sony indicate a 17+ Mature rating from the ESRB, with a familiar list of content warnings: blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, sexual content, and drug use.
The sudden surge in activity has led many to believe a third trailer or a pre-order announcement could be imminent. Fans have pointed out several "clues" in the PlayStation Store, including the removal of the game from the "Just Announced" section and a new "2026 Great Games" graphic that some think mirrors the GTA 6 logo.
Adding fuel to the fire, Take-Two is scheduled for a financial call on May 21st, an event where the parent company historically shares major updates regarding its release windows and marketing strategies.
As the hype builds, discussions regarding the game's price have resurfaced. While some analysts initially predicted a cost as high as $100 (£100), Zelnick recently suggested a more consumer-friendly approach, stating the company's "job is to charge way, way, way less of the value delivery."
For now, the game remains a console exclusive for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with no confirmed news for PC players.
