Raheem Sterling Charged With Dangerous Driving and Nitrous Oxide Possession Following Car Crash

Former England international Raheem Sterling is set to appear in court next month after being charged with driving offenses following a single-vehicle collision involving his Lamborghini on a motorway.
The 31-year-old forward was arrested following the crash on the M3 southbound near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire. Law enforcement confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident and no injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the details of the upcoming legal proceedings:
"A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3."
"Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen."
"The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange [Hampshire], on 28 May, 2026."
"No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported. Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September."
Initial police inquiries suspected the player of "driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs," though that specific allegation was not included in the formal charges filed. Following the crash, a source close to the player stated there was "no proof" of drugs in his system and noted that Sterling had dealt with "an extremely tough couple of years" while being made to "feel worthless" and "forgotten about."
Sterling is currently a free agent after a short spell with Dutch Eredivisie club Feyenoord, whom he joined on a short-term contract following his departure from Chelsea. The 31-year-old previously spent the 2024–25 campaign on loan at Arsenal before his contract at Stamford Bridge was ended by mutual consent.
During a distinguished domestic career, Sterling won four Premier League titles, five League Cups, and an FA Cup with Manchester City after breaking through at Liverpool. He also represented the England national team 82 times, scoring 20 goals while playing key roles in reaching the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the Euro 2020 final. In 2021, he was appointed an MBE for services to racial equality in sport.
Sterling is scheduled to stand before Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on 15th September.
