Reform UK Announces Stephen Broadhurst as Candidate for Macclesfield
Upcoming General Election
Reform UK has announced its candidate for the Macclesfield constituency in the next general election. Although the election date is yet to be announced, it must take place by the end of January 2025.
Meet the Candidate: Stephen Broadhurst
Stephen Broadhurst, a British Aerospace engineer by trade and a business change specialist by profession, has been selected as the party's parliamentary candidate. A lifelong resident of Macclesfield, Stephen lives near the canal and Hovis Mill and has enjoyed the vibrant town center his entire life.
Community Involvement and Vision
Stephen has a history of community involvement, having been elected twice as a Borough Councillor. "I have put myself forward as PPC with ideas and a real plan which I will instigate and deliver real action and change against," said Stephen.
Criticism of Current Government and Local Council
Stephen expressed his frustration with the current political situation: "I am sick of paying for other people's mistakes. Courtesy of this Conservative Government, my mortgage has trebled, and because of this Labour-run Cheshire East Council, my Council Tax Bill is scandalously high."
Focus on Local Issues
Stephen is determined to address local issues, criticizing continuous cuts in services, the closure of tips and libraries, and unresolved issues like potholes and unemptied road gulleys. He also highlights the abolition of free parking and increased charges, which he believes detract from the enjoyment of the town center.
Advocacy for a Separate Macclesfield Borough Council
Stephen supports the petition to break away from Cheshire East Council and re-establish a single Macclesfield Borough Council. "I advocate the current petition calling to break away from Cheshire East. Despite numerous invitations to the other candidates to sign up, I am the only one who has done so," he said.
Commitment to Accountability and Transparency
Stephen emphasizes the need for Cheshire East to be run like a business, with accountable and responsible officials. "This, together with clear justification on where our money is being spent, I would like to think that this is just common sense," he added.
A Vision for Macclesfield and Beyond
"Want Reform? Get Reform! Together we cannot just make Macclesfield great; we can transform it into the fantastic place that it can be. I would also give you a real voice in Westminster on issues that matter to our proud country," Stephen concluded.
Current Candidate Lineup
Stephen joins six other candidates vying to be Macclesfield's next MP: Amanda Iremonger (Green Party), David Rutley MP (Conservatives), Tim Roca (Labour), Neil Christian (Liberal Democrats), Dickie Fletcher (Social Democratic Party), and Christopher Wellavize (Independent).
About Reform UK
The Reform UK party, originally founded as the Brexit Party in November 2018, has never stood in a Macclesfield General Election. Former Conservative MP Lee Anderson is the only Reform UK representative in the Houses of Parliament.
