Portsmouth to Host D-Day 80th Anniversary Events
Portsmouth, a historic naval city on England's south coast, has been chosen as the host for the United Kingdom's events marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. His ship, an escort vessel tasked with protecting the convoys crossing the English Channel, was tragically sunk off the coast of Normandy in August 1944. Despite the devastation, Ford survived, albeit with harrowing memories etched into his consciousness.
Reflecting on the events of that day, Ford remarked, You don't hear an explosion; you just get a feeling, and the feeling was me going through the air and landing in the water." His resilience and determination to survive amidst the chaos exemplify the spirit of those who fought on D-Day.
