Police Appeal For Information Following Museum Theft
Nottingham Police have issued an appeal for information following a robbery at Royal Lancers & Nottinghamshire Yeomanry Museum in the early hours of Sunday morning. The theft involved cutting through the museum's floor, leaving museum staff shocked upon discovering the significant amount of missing antique silver.
The culprits drilled a small hole to survey their target through a display cabinet before they crafted a larger hole, approximately 10 inches by 12 inches, through the wooden floor and cabinet. The stolen treasures include a distinctive parcel and gilt rosewater dish, believed to be a sister piece to the Wimbledon women's singles trophy, as well as the Hurlingham Grand Military Polo trophy, statuettes of mounted soldiers, and a cavalry trumpet.
Nottinghamshire Police are now conducting a thorough investigation. Detective Inspector Luke Todd emphasised the sentimental and monetary value of the stolen items, urging the public to come forward with any information about the heist or any attempts to sell the stolen antiques. The museum, which also houses a collection of firearms and other weapons, has confirmed the safety of all other items in its possession.
In response to the theft, the police have released images of the stolen items and are appealing for information from the community about the robbery, which is believed to have taken place between 2.40am and 3.30am GMT. Detective Sergeant Jackie Price urged anyone who has seen these distinctive pieces or been offered them for sale to contact the police promptly, emphasising the historic and sentimental significance of the items to the military community.
Anyone with additional information should call 101 quoting incident 273 of Sunday 29 October 2023. Crimestoppers can also be contacted on 0800 555 111.
