Winterfell to Westeros: Kit Harington and Sophie Turner Spark Viral ‘Gag’ Video After On-Screen Kiss

LOS ANGELES — It appears that nearly a decade of playing siblings is a hard habit to break. Kit Harington and Sophie Turner, beloved by millions as the Stark siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, have sent the internet into a tailspin following the release of a behind-the-scenes clip from their new gothic horror film, The Dreadful (trailer below).

The footage, which surfaced ahead of the film’s theatrical and digital release tomorrow, shows the pair sharing a romantic on-screen kiss—only to immediately pull apart and pretend to gag the moment the director yells "cut."

The "Vile" Reality of a Stark Reunion

The viral moment, shared by Entertainment Tonight, captures the lighthearted but genuine awkwardness of the transition from family to lovers. Turner, who also serves as a producer on the film, has been candid about the "nauseating" experience of filming intimate scenes with her longtime friend.

“We get on set, and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching,” Turner joked during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. “Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst. I’m like, ‘Oh, shoot… that’s my brother.’”

Harington echoed the sentiment, telling E! News that the discomfort wasn't just psychological, but physical. “It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me,” the actor admitted. “But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact.”

What is ‘The Dreadful’ About?

Set against the brutal backdrop of the War of the Roses in 15th-century England, The Dreadful is a folk-horror reimagining inspired by the 1964 Japanese masterpiece Onibaba. The plot follows:

  • Anne (Turner): A young woman living a solitary, impoverished life with her mother-in-law.

  • Morwen (Marcia Gay Harden): A fiercely protective matriarch who will go to any lengths—including murder—to survive.

  • Jago (Harington): A man from Anne’s past who returns from the war with news of her husband’s death, sparking a dark chain of events and a forbidden romance.

Directed by Natasha Kermani, the film explores the corrosive nature of greed and the "dreadful" ties that bind families together in times of war.

A "Sisterly" Recommendation

Interestingly, the reunion was Turner’s idea. While developed by Lionsgate and independent producers, Turner personally recommended Harington for the role of Jago. Despite the "retching" during rehearsals, both actors have praised the chance to work together again, with Harington noting that their friendship "completely ignited again" the moment they stepped onto the medieval-style set.

The Verdict Is In

While the "Stark reunion" is the film's main marketing hook, early reviews have been polarized. Some critics have praised the atmospheric, fog-drenched cinematography, while others have noted that the lingering "sibling energy" between the leads makes the romantic subplots feel intentionally or unintentionally, strained.

The Dreadful officially arrives in select theaters and on digital platforms on Friday 20th February 2026.
