It's official: millions of UK workers will get their expected pay rise
Public sector workers, including teachers, dentists and police officers, are to be offered pay rises between 5%-7%, the UK government just stated.
It's official: UK Government announced a substantial raise for all public sector workers, who, in the last couple of months, protested for improving the level of their lives (meaning increasing their rises significantly).
Rishi Sunak called it a "major breakthrough," which will surely have an impact on the lives of millions, who were recently affected by the Inflation, caused by both Brexit and Covid.
School Teachers' Review Body (STRB) stated: "A 6.5% increase for teachers and school leaders recognises the vital role that teachers play in our country and ensures that teaching will continue to be an attractive profession."
What is also crucial is the fact that Sunak confirmed that the aforementioned pay awards won't be funded by increased borrowing or higher taxes. Sunak spoke about different sources they will use for the future additional income for all of the workers.
Here, we can read a list of what kind of pay rises have been offered:
- Police officers: 7% (England & Wales)
- Consultants, dentists and GPs: 6% (England)
- Junior doctors: 6% + £1,250 consolidated increase (England)
- Prison officers: 7% and more for support grades (England & Wales)
- Armed forces: 5% + £1,000 consolidated increase (UK)
- Teachers: 6.5% (England)
