Georgian Economy Minister Pushes for Inclusion in European Roaming Space
In a recent statement, Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili reiterated the country's commitment to joining Europe's unified roaming space, emphasizing the importance of enabling citizens to use local tariffs while traveling within Europe.
Davitashvili underscored the extensive efforts undertaken by domestic authorities to achieve this objective, stating that significant progress had been made in implementing telecommunications reforms, which have been positively acknowledged by the European Commission.
While expressing optimism about the prospects of Georgia's inclusion in the European roaming space, Davitashvili also acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with the European Commission. He emphasized that, despite not being able to specify a precise date for inclusion, a detailed plan of action is in place, with active efforts underway to ensure that domestic regulations align with European law.
Interestingly, Davitashvili revealed that discussions are ongoing with Moldova and Ukraine, with the aim of collectively joining the roaming space as a unified bloc. This collaborative approach underscores the shared commitment among these countries to enhance connectivity and facilitate communication across borders.
Looking ahead, Davitashvili expressed hope that domestic authorities would continue to make progress throughout the year, culminating in the adoption of legislative initiatives that would further support Georgia's integration into the European roaming space.
The push for inclusion in the European roaming space reflects Georgia's dedication to aligning with European standards and fostering closer ties with EU member states. As efforts intensify and collaboration deepens, Georgian citizens can anticipate greater convenience and affordability when using telecommunications services while traveling in Europe.
