Gatwick Airport to be hit by another summer strike

The Unite union announced that nearly a thousand workers will strike at Gatwick Airport. They are supposed to take even eight days of strike action over the summer holidays. As there is still an ongoing struggle for better pay, Gatwick's workers believe this is an essential thing to do.

BBC's writers speculate it might be one of the busiest summers after the pandemic, as the COVID situation is nearly over. That being said,

Ground staff, baggage handlers, check-in-staff - they all are supposed to strike and it will presumably cause a surplus of delays and endless chaos at the airport.

The strike will take place from:

a) Friday 28 July to Tuesday 1 August;

b) Again, from Friday 4 August to Tuesday 8 August.

Airlines that will be affected include British Airways, EasyJet, Ryanair, Tui, Westjet and Wizz, the union stated, so the most important companies will have to do everything to recompensate their customers.

Sky News calculated that "up to 12,600 flights every day - around a third of the journeys made across the continent during the peak summer holiday period - could be delayed" due to the strike.

Workers believe that the strike is inevitable, as it might actually help their cause. Last month. Heathrow Airport called all the strikes off and spoke to workers' unions to improve their situation. There was a vote in favour of a pay deal; time will tell if Gatwick's staff will choose to do the same.
